As part of the 2022 Bond, Houston Elementary School has broken ground on a full modernization of the existing campus at its current location. The new building will feature flexible learning spaces to support a variety of learning styles, designed in partnerhsip with the Houston community. Project design began in spring 2023 and the modernized campus is anticipated to open at the start of the fall 2026 semester. During construction, school activities will remain in the existing building.

The Board of Trustees appointed volunteer community members to the Community Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) to ensure that the projects remain faithful to the voter-approved bond program scope of work and to monitor and ensure the bond projects are completed on time, with quality and within budget.

Q3 2026 Updates:

Completed Activities:

Finished indoor construction across multiple buildings, including gym completion, kitchen equipment installation, lighting, ceiling grids, and restroom tiling
Completed courtyard sidewalks, concrete work, exterior canopies, and stormwater pond landscaping while establishing permanent building climate control

Ongoing Activities:

Progressing with interior finishes, including main office cabinetry installation, security entryway setups, and new flooring installation
Continuing exterior work, including planting trees, installing courtyard lighting, connecting canopy drainage, and mounting security cameras

Upcoming Activities:

Moving in and arranging furniture to prepare the newly finished spaces for use
Implementing environmental storm water protection plans and starting hazardous material removal for the next phase of the project
